A Brief History...
Kate has been riding horses for over 20 years. She learned how to ride on the bare back of an old Appaloosa, holding on to her mother’s waist. Shortly after that she got her own Welsh Mountain Pony (Lightening) and learned how to ride on the trail. Kate began taking lessons at Breckenridge Farm (www.breckenridgefarm.com) at the age of seven and has been training with Judi Whipple ever since.
At age 9 Kate began showing horses, beginning with Hunt Seat shows and then quickly moving onto Dressage. Kate had much success in both disciplines, brining home year-end championships with VEHA, CDSS, and qualifying for the North East Jr/Yr Dressage Championships (now called Lendon’s Youth Dressage Festival); as well as winning many individual show championships. Kate has competed through 3rd level dressage and schooled through 4th level dressage.
Kate also began teaching young students of her own at the age of 14 years, and had her first horses in for training. She taught and trained every spring through fall for 3 years at her parent’s farm. This is where her love for teaching and training began and slowly blossomed.

In 2005 Kate began attending the University of Vermont and tried out for the Dressage Team. She secured a seat on the team as a First Level rider and attended many CDI shows with the team through the fall of 2005. Kate left UVM in 2006 and continued to train her young Hanoverian gelding, “Wilhe.” |
Kate and Wilhe continued their training and partnership while Kate worked and then eventually returned to college. Shortly after college Kate decided to move back to her hometown of Plainfield, Vermont. She then began teaching at Allenwood Stables in August 2009 and has been happily teaching and training there ever since.
